Traffic violations are a part of life. It may seem to be one of life's worst experiences, but if you are aware of the options available to you, the experience can be a fairly pleasant one. This department processes civil infractions and criminal traffic cases. Civil infractions are violations such as speeding, running a stop sign or signal, careless driving, no tag, etc. Criminal traffic includes driving while under the influence, driving while license suspended, racing on highway, and others.
On the reverse side of the citation you will find important instructions concerning civil infractions. You must comply with one of the options within 30 calendar days from the date the ticket was issued. If you fail to comply within the 30 day period, your driving privilege will be suspended until you do comply and pay a $30.00 late fee, and a $60.00 reinstatement fee. Outstanding fines & cost will be referred to a collection agency. The options offered are:
Option 1: You elect to pay the civil penalty. If you are charged with driver's license, tag, registration, or insurance infractions you must provide proof of renewal with payment of the civil penalty. If you were charged with not having your license, tag, registration, or insurance with you, and they were valid at the time of the citation, the charge will be dismissed upon proof that the license, etc., was valid at that time, and payment of a $10.00 dismissal fee. Please make payments in the form of a money order or a cashiers check made payable to the Traffic Bureau. Partial payments are accepted with a $25.00 fee.
Option 2: Allows for one to elect a court hearing. Please contact this office for information concerning court hearings. You will be assessed subpoena fees and may pay additional court costs if found guilty.
Option 3: Allows for one to attend a driver improvement school and pay the civil penalty to have the points and conviction withheld from the Florida Driving Record. The school option is only available once in a 12 month period and 5 times, in a lifetime in the State of Florida. Please contact this office for further information regarding the school option.
Criminal violations require a court appearance. Court dates are assigned by the arresting officer or the jail personnel. If you have any questions concerning your criminal violation, please do not hesitate to contact this office for further assistance at either of our locations. Certain license & tag charges maybe handled through the Clerk's office; Call for additional information.
